How to make your Photographers day.

BEFORE THE WEDDING DAY

1. Share a clear timeline

  • Make sure your photographer has the final schedule.
  • Highlight important moments, travel time, and buffer time.
  • Let them know if anything has changed the day before.

2. Provide a family shot list

  • Names + group combinations (e.g., “Bride + Mom + Dad”).
  • Keep it short and realistic—20 or fewer groups is ideal.
  • Assign a family member or coordinator who knows everyone to help gather people.

3. Prepare details in one place

Have the following ready in a box or laid out:

  • Rings
  • Invitations
  • Shoes
  • Jewelry
  • Perfume
  • Vow books
  • Boutonniere / bouquet
  • This saves time and ensures nothing gets missed.

4. Tell your photographer about surprises

Whether it's a choreographed dance, a gift exchange, fireworks, or a special exit—photographers need to anticipate these to capture them well.

ON THE WEDDING DAY

5. Keep rooms tidy (or designate a clean corner)

Clutter-free areas mean cleaner, more timeless photos.

6. Get dressed near natural light

A window is a photographer’s best friend. Hair and makeup near natural light = better, more flattering images.

7. Build buffer time into prep

Running late is the #1 reason couples lose portrait time. Add 15–20 minutes of cushion around hair/makeup and outfit changes.

8. Let your photographer guide the portraits

Trust their posing, light choices, and location suggestions—they’re thinking of angles and lighting you might not see.

9. Stay together for portraits

If you wander off to greet people, photo time disappears quickly. Staying close helps maximize your portrait window.

10. Be fully present

Relax your shoulders, breathe, and enjoy each other. Genuine moments look the best on camera.

11.Communicate about priorities

Tell your photographer what matters most:

  • Couples photos?
  • People dancing?
  • Candid guest interactions?
  • Décor and details?

Photographers will adjust how they allocate time and attention.

12.Feed your photographer

A fed photographer = more energy, sharper focus, and happier photos. Ideally, serve them when you eat so they don’t miss anything.

13. Trust them

The best photos happen when couples trust their photographer’s creativity, even when something feels odd (“chin down a little,” “step into that patch of light,” “walk slowly”).

14. Enjoy the day!

A couple having fun looks amazing in photos. Your emotion and energy shape how the images feel. If you want those beautiful candid images, you are going to have to be candid.
